Big Panda Performance
2 Day Competition Pistol Training Course
Presented By Charlie Perez
The Big Panda Performance Competition Pistol training course is a 2 Day Group class which is designed to maximize practical shooting skill performance for competitors of all skill levels. The training content is designed for a students who already participate in the practical shooting sports. This class is not intended for “New Gun Owners” who have not competed in the practical shooting sports. The trainer, Charlie Perez, is a two USPSA division Grand Master (Limited & Open) and has been competing in the practical shooting sports all across the nation since 2008. With a diligent performance assessment focus on each student and having trained hundreds of students of all skill levels, rest assured that the depth and breadth of the training content will provide value for all skill level students.
Day 1 will start with a discussion to assess each students skill set, goals, and competition mindset. Then we will focus on Dry/Live Fire Drills, Gun Handling Mechanics, Marksmanship and Movement fundamentals along with Mental Discipline.
Day 2 will utilize a specific field course stage that tests many different shooting and movement skills needed to effectively compete in Practical Shooting sports. Each student will be tasked with shooting the stage “Cold” just like it would happen in a match then we will assess that performance. The stage is then broken down one section at a time to optimize each skill & section. We will also talk about the reason why certain tasks or skills should be performed a specific way. The primary goal is to test your skills and then make adjustments as needed to maximize your performance. This stage also consists of a swinging target that is used to learn how to effectively engage moving targets with a high level of consistency.
This class requires a minimum of 8 students and is restricted to 12 students. This attendance requirement is defined in order to make it effective for everyone attending. There will be a lot going on and keeping track of each shooters needs can get very complex, thus the restricted maximum class size. I request that each student keep an open mind while trying new things as that is usually the number one road block most students face.
Prior to attending this class, I require all students read my book “Path of Focused Effort”. This requirement dramatically improves understanding concepts and content covered during the class. With the books content understood, it allows us to hit the ground running from the start and switch topics efficiently as the class progresses. The book also serves as a very good resource to reference before, during or after the class. You can order this book on my website www.bigpandaperformance.com.
I suggest that each student bring their normal Practical Shooting gun and gear (Shooting Belt, Holster, Mag Pouches, Multiple Magazines, Range Bag, etc). I also suggest that each student bring at least 500 rounds of ammo per day. If you can bring more ammo that is ideal. The training content is delivered in a manner that offers students the opportunity to perform drills in either a Live or Dry fire manner. This gives the students the opportunity to shoot or not shoot as they see fit while still performing productive repetitions of the drill. If you have a backup gun, I would also suggest bringing it. Batting gun problems during a training class is never fun and it will take your focus away from the actual training content.
The training class will be hosted at the Independence Firearms and Training facility in Cord, Arkansas. We will meet at the range and setup the training drills or stage as needed then jump right into class. We usually get out to the range at 8AM and the class goes to about 5PM. Each Student needs to bring enough liquids and food to stay nourished throughout the day. Bring whatever creature comforts (Chair, Shade, Sunscreen, Attire, etc.) you feel is needed to make it through two full days on the range while being exposed to the elements.
